The following policies apply to all classes at Springfield Improv
Registration, Payments, & Changes
- Availability: Space is limited, and class spots are filled on a first come, first served basis.
- Refunds: No refunds are given for any class payments.
- If you withdraw from a class at least 10 days before the first class, we will hold any money you’ve paid to be applied toward another class within 6 months.
- If you withdraw from a class prior to the second class in the series, we will hold any money you’ve paid, minus a $50 late-cancellation fee, toward another class within 6 months.
- If you withdraw from a class on the date of the second class in the series or later, any money you’ve paid will not be refunded.
- There are no guarantees on the types, dates, times, space, or availability of future classes.
- Instructors: We have the right to change instructors (or the number of instructors) for a class at our discretion. Specific instructors are not guaranteed.
- Class Minimums: Classes may be postponed, rescheduled, or cancelled if the class minimum of 6 students is not met.
- Class Cancellations: If a class is rescheduled or cancelled by us and you cannot attend, you have the option of transferring any money paid to another class or receiving a full refund for any money you’ve paid.
Class Policies & Expectations
- Auditing/Guests: Visitors are not allowed in class at any time.
- Attendance: Our classes rely on group participation, and absences will affect your growth, as well as the growth of your classmates. We ask that you attend every class within the session. We understand that emergencies do happen and conflicts do arise, so absences are allowed as follows: A 7-week improv class allows TWO absences. Any additional absences after those allotted will REMOVE you from the course. (For shorter sessions or workshops, absences are determined on a case-by-case basis).
- Removal means you cannot attend any more classes or participate in the graduation show. Once removed, if you wish to continue your training, you will have to repeat the level at full tuition price.
- Cell Phones: Once class begins, cell phones should be silent or off completely (including no vibration) until the class takes a break or ends. Students should not be on their cell phone during class except for an emergency.
- Disruptive Behavior: Instructors have the right to remove anyone from class who is disrupting the class experience at their sole discretion. Please do not show up to class under the influence of anything that might impair you, and be sure to read through our code of conduct and anti-discrimination policies.
- Liability/Safety: You agree that you choose to voluntarily participate in the course with full knowledge that the activity may be hazardous to yourself and/or your property. You voluntarily assume full responsibility for any risks of loss, property damage or personal injury, including death, that may be sustained as a result of participating in the activity. You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Springfield Improv, LLC and its employees, members and volunteers for any loss, liability, damage or costs, including court costs and attorney fees, that may occur as a result of your participation in the activity. We are not responsible for lost or stolen property.
Competency
- Students are not guaranteed promotion to the next course level. Promotion is contingent on attendance and a demonstration of course concepts through application in class, during performances or writing.
- Participation in or completion of improv courses does not guarantee additional performance opportunities.
Promotions and Marketing
- Springfield Improv, LLC reserves the right to use photographs and videos of students in classroom and performance settings for promotional and marketing purposes. That said, we understand that there are times when individuals do not want to have their image/likeness shown, and we respect this right. If, at any time, you see that we are using an image that you do not want to be used in a public format, please tell a member of the management team, and we will cease to use the image for promotional and marketing purposes.
Code of Conduct / Anti-Discrimination Policy
- Improv is inherently based on both vulnerability and trust. We place extreme importance on providing a safe, supportive learning environment that fosters creativity and growth. We expect the same from our students.
- If you feel uncomfortable for any reason whatsoever in class, or in interactions with students outside of class, please notify your instructor or any other staff member immediately.
- You do not have to participate in anything that makes you feel uncomfortable.
- You have a right to set boundaries (whether physical, emotional, or otherwise) that others will honor.
- We do not tolerate discrimination or harassment of any kind. This includes, but is not limited to, discrimination or harassment based on race, age, religion, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity and/or expression, socio-economic standing, or other characteristics protected by law or policy.
- Unwanted conduct does not need to be explicitly targeted towards someone’s identity to be deemed discrimination or harassment.
- Anyone whose conduct may be in violation of this policy may be talked to or coached, warned, or even removed from class either temporarily or permanently.
- Any of our staff members are available to discuss any concerns from students at any time.
